REPORT-BACK ELECTION CONFERENCE OF THE UKRAINIAN PEACE COUNCIL 2023

The regular report-back and election Conference of the Ukrainian Peace Council (UPC) took place at the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute (KPI) on April 12, 2023.

 

Agenda items:

 

1. Report of the UPC Presidium on the activities of the Ukrainian Peace Council for the period under review.

 

2. Report of the Auditing Commission for the period under review.

 

3. Elections of steering bodies and the Auditing Commission of the Ukrainian Peace Council:

             - Head of the Ukrainian Peace Council;

             - Presidium of the Ukrainian Peace Council;

             - Auditing Commission of the Ukrainian Peace Council.

 

4. Any Other Business.

 

The significant event commenced with a welcoming speech by Mykhailo Zgurovsky, Deputy Head of the Ukrainian Peace Council and KPI Rector. The conference also honored the memory of the soldiers who defended the Motherland, Leonid Kravchuk, First President of independent Ukraine and Head of the Ukrainian Peace Council, and members of the UPC leadership who have passed away in recent years. The anthem of Ukraine was played.

 

The Conference elected Professor Valerii Tsybukh, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Honored Cultural Worker of Ukraine, Doctor of Philosophy, as its Chairman.

 

On UPC Presidium’s motion the Conference considered the candidacy of Mykhailo Zgurovsky, a renowned scientist, academician, public and political figure, for the position of the UPC Head.

 

In their speeches, members of the UPC Presidium – Vasyl Kremen, Leonid Huberskii and Viktor Andrushchenko – fully endorsed the proposed candidate, highlighting his great authority in Ukraine and the world. They emphasized his high moral qualities, broad professional and analytical qualifications, as well as his ability to make a weighty contribution to the activities of the Ukrainian Peace Council through science, education and culture.

 

The Conference elected unanimously Professor Mykhailo Zgurovsky, UPC Deputy Head, KPI Rector, Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Engineering Science, Honored Worker of Science and Engineering of Ukraine, Winner of the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Engineering, Winner of the V.M. Glushkov Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, as Head of the Ukrainian Peace Council.

 

The newly elected UPC Head expressed sincere gratitude to the Conference delegates for the honor to take the helm of a reputed peacemaking organization in Ukraine and the world. He also thanked them for the opportunity to continue the important work of his prominent predecessors, namely Oles Honchar and Leonid Kravchuk, and other outstanding Ukrainian public figures.

 

He submitted the UPC Action Program for the Period of Martial Law in Ukraine to the Conference delegates for consideration.

 

The Conference also approved the renewed composition of the Presidium and the Auditing Commission of the Ukrainian Peace Council.

 

Regarding item 4 of the agenda, "Any Other Business”, the Conference discussed the new wordings of certain clauses of the UPC Statute.

CONFERENCE RESOLUTION

 

After the Conference, a meeting was held by the UPC Presidium in its new composition. The meeting considered and approved a number of organizational matters pertaining to the powers of the UPC Presidium:

 

- Deputy Heads of the Ukrainian Peace Council were elected:

  • First Deputy Head Serhiy Komisarenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Director of the Palladin Institute of Biochemistry under the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Member of the National Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor;
  • Deputy Head Volodymyr Novokhatskii, NGO UPC Director, Ambassador of Peace, Dr. in Political Science;
  • Deputy Head for International Relations, Valerii Tsybukh, Manager of projects and programs, separate subdivisions, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Honored Cultural Worker of Ukraine, Doctor of Philosophy, Professor;

-  New members of the Bureau of the UPC Presidium were elected:

  • Mykhailo Zgurovsky, NGO UPC Head;
  • Serhiy Komisarenko, NGO UPC First Deputy Head;
  • Vasyl Kremen, member of the NGO UPC Presidium;
  • Volodymyr Novokhatskii, staff Deputy Head and NGO UPC Director;
  • Valerii Tsybukh, Deputy Head for Foreign Affairs, and Manager of projects and programs, separate subdivisions;

-  New members of the Advisory Board of the UPC Presidium were elected.

Serhii Oriekhov, Chairman of the NGO Council on Environmental Safety, Doctor of Law, was elected as Head of the Advisory Board of the UPC Presidium.

Bohdan Duda, Dr. in Engineering Science, was elected as Deputy Head.

Furthermore, separate subdivisions were established within the Ukrainian Peace Council:

 

-  UPC Committee on International and Information Activities, headed by Professor Sergii Sydorenko, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Corresponding Member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Worker of Science and Engineering of Ukraine;

 

-  The youth wing of the Ukrainian Peace Council, which will engage progressive student youth, is headed by Volodymyr Yurchenko, Chairman of the NGO Ukrainian Alliance.
